Robert S. Eck “Pop” KAYSVILLE – Robert Sorensen Eck, better known as “Pop” died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at his home. He was born October 5, 1925 in Logan, to Lois Sorenson Eck George and Ernest Fredrick Eck, a policeman. He was the oldest of four children, three sisters, Pearl Marie Bryant (deceased), Della Tarbet of Roy; and one sister who died as a child. Bob lived in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School in 1944. He was drafted December 9, 1944 into the U.S. Army. In 1946, he worked at Hickom Field Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1947 in Evanston, Wyoming, Pop married Betty Willison and they had five children: James Robert, LeRoy, Judy Lynn, Debra Kay and Troy. They divorced in 1962. He married Betty Christine Edvalson King in 1964 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They had two sons, Robert Ernest King and John Lynn King. Betty died in 1992. Pop worked for Hill Air Force Base in 1950 and retired after 30 years of service. He was the foreman in the hydraulic shop. In 1970, he and his wife Betty owned the Office Lounge between two-bit street and Kiesel Avenue in Ogden. Bob loved country western music and Hank Williams was his favorite artist of all time. He had his own band, “Bob Eck and the Utah Playboys”. He played rhythm and lead vocal on the Martin guitar. Pop was a great grandpa and had 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. In addition to his love of the guitar and country western music, he was an avid fisherman and dangerous on a pool table. He shared time with his family and many, many friends. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion, Post 87. He will be sorely missed!! Surviving are his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Interment, West Weber Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Brigham City Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
