Robert Barlow Fox 12/11/30 ~ 8/10/07 Robert Barlow Fox, 76, passed from this life and returned to our Heavenly Father on August 10, 2007 at his home in Bountiful, Utah. He died as a result of Melanoma. Born in Ogden, Utah to Orland James and Laura Sanders Fox on December 11, 1930, he spent his youth in Ogden/North Ogden. He graduated form Weber High where he was active in sports, writing, school operettas, and served as LDS Seminary President. Bob served in the Navy in the Pacific and the Army in Europe. He was an LDS missionary for three years among the Maoris of New Zealand, speaking the language and loving the people. He always considered it his second homeland. Bob had various church callings, serving in the bishopric, as Priest Quorum advisor, asst. Scoutmaster, and gospel doctrine teacher. He was an excellent speaker and teacher. On June 7, 1958 he married Kathleen Redd in the Cardston Alberta LDS Temple. They have made their home Bountiful for 44 years. Bob earned his BS and MS degrees from BYU and did graduate work at both the U of U and USU. He worked as a caseworker/psychologist for the Utah Industrial School in Weber District and spent the bulk of his career as a teacher/guidance counselor at Cyprus High in Granite District. A man of many talents, Bob was a skilled woodcarver, jeweler, painter and had a beautiful singing voice. A member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, he has published 17 books – five anthologies for Deseret Book – and 12 young adult novels, as well as articles, poetry and essays in many magazines and journals. Bob won three Freedom’s Foundation Awards. One, an essay on Abraham Lincoln, was read into the Congressional Record by then Senator Wallace F. Bennett. Bob was a voracious reader and was always reading a variety of books. A lover of world cultures, he and Kathleen traveled to 56 countries. He had a great love of nature, especially for the beauty of mountains. Bob leaves behind, for now his wife of 49 years; children: Trilby Cope (Bill) of Provo; Matt Redd Fox (Jamie) of Kaysville; grandchildren: Courtney (serving in the Ohio Cleveland Mission), Coryn, Caitlyn and Camryn Cope; Cori, Jessie and Connor James Fox; sister Ann (Tom) Hardy. He is welcomed by his parents, his sister Kay and his son Con Barlow Fox, who preceded him in death. He was a terrific dad, grandpa and husband and was blessed with many devoted life-long friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may call from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, Utah. In lieu of flowers it was Dad’s wish that a donation be considered to either Primary Children’s Medical Center or the LDS Missionary Fund.
