Robert Glenn Gardiner

Robert “Bob” Glenn Gardiner, 90, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2016 at home.
He was born July 24, 1926 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Alfred Bertram and Lorna Wilbur Gardiner.
Bob spent his youth in Eden, Utah living with his parents and then with his grandparents, Jesse and Minnie Wilbur, when his parents moved to Ogden. He worked at the Wilbur Blacksmith Shop after school. Following graduation from Weber High School in 1944, he joined the United States Navy, where he served for three years during World War II. He served aboard the USS Rockbridge (APA-228). He was aboard when it was commissioned and he was the last person to leave the ship when it was decommissioned at Hunter’s Point, San Francisco, California.
On leave from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Irene Mae Mahany on December 18, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Bob spent 30 years working for Thiokol Corporation in the procurement department until his retirement. He spent 20 years serving in the Boy Scouts of America. He had a positive influence on many boys. He received BSA’s highest honor, the Silver Beaver award.
In his spare time he loved working in his two-acre fruit orchard on 16th street in Ogden. He also loved spending time with his family camping, fishing and backpacking.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; sons, Jim, Ron (Karen), Scott (Lisa) and Paul (Brenda) Gardiner; one brother, Don Gardiner; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Les and Larry; sister Bonnie, and one great-granddaughter, Kate Harrop.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the South Ogden 6th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Avenue. The family will meet with friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
