Robert Mc Holbrook
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Mc Holbrook, who left us on July 12, 2024 at the age of 94. Known for his unwavering independence and strong work ethic, Robert passed away while working in his yard. He was born on June 11, 1930, in Glendale, California, to the late Sarah McFerson and Clifford J. Holbrook. He was the fourth of five siblings: Wayne, Dean, Lynn, and his sister, LaRue.
A defining moment in Robert’s life occurred in 1952 when a chance meeting on a bus bound for Camp Pendleton introduced him to Geraldine Smith, who would become the love of his life. Robert served honorably as a mechanic in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After his military service he and Geraldine were married on December 12, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After their union, Robert, with the help of his brothers Lynn and Wayne, built their family home in Bountiful, Utah, where he resided until his final days.
Robert dedicated 41 years to AMOCO Oil, retiring in 1990. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed his summers camping and boating with his family. Winters were spent in the garage, where he found joy beside a stoked wood-burning stove, tinkering with various gadgets, and gizmos. Robert also deeply loved his Scottish and English heritage, spending countless hours tracing his family’s genealogy and preserving their history.
Robert’s legacy is carried on by his loving family, his son, John T. Kounalis; daughters Kathy Martin, Pat H. Francis (Kurt Francis), and Nadine H. Slater (Terry Slater). He was a devoted father to his children and a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and loving wife of 71 years.
Robert Mc Holbrook’s life was a testament to dedication, hard work, love, and family. Those who had the honor of knowing him will forever cherish his memory.
