Robert McArthur

December 18, 1956 — January 9, 2025

A week before Christmas, on December 18, 1956; Robert Glen McArthur was born in a small hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Robert would be the oldest of the six children born to Keith Glen and Dorothy Tucker McArthur.

From the time he was little he loved to be busy and have fun. Even at a young age, he was stamping out floor plans of houses in the snow. Designing pathways and halls to the various rooms. Helping his younger sister design the rooms of her houses and connecting the houses and making neighborhoods.

Robert knew from the start what he would do in life. His mind was always seeing beautiful and wonderful creations. He had such an attention to detail. At 14 years of age, he already had a job working for the company building the Maple Hills Condominiums in Bountiful. Word spread of his talent in drawing homes and designs and he was working more and more while he was in high school. Many of his houses were featured in the Annual Utah Parade of Homes, starting when he was still a teenager.

Robert took 2nd place in Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) at the state level and then went on to take 2nd place at the National level when he was a senior at Bountiful High School. He earned a 1st place VICA award on the state level while in college and went on to compete at nationals.

Robert was called on an LDS mission to the Seattle Spanish speaking mission which split into two missions putting him in the new Spokane Spanish speaking mission. He loved working with the people in the farming communities of Washington State, especially the migrant workers.

While Robert was preparing for his mission, another of his homes was featured in the Home Show and he won the People’s Choice Award, one of many he went on to win.

Robert graduated with a Masters of Architecture from the University of Utah. Many of the homes in Bountiful and the surrounding areas are Robert’s work and he did not stop at the floor plans, he also created and designed the interiors. His fame grew and his designs can be found worldwide.

The Church has always been important to him. He loved his callings and working with people. He has held many callings. Currently he enjoyed teaching the Gospel Doctrine class and spent many hours preparing the lessons.

Robert was supportive of his nieces and nephews and tried to attend many of their special events as they were growing up. He also arranged for family time at his cabin near Midway. Every family loved when it was their turn to go with Robert to his Newport Beach condo.

Probably one of the highlights of his life was the opportunity to work on the interior design and architecture of the Sao Paulo, Brazil ; Newport, California; Manhattan, New York and Syracuse, Utah Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Robert passed away unexpectedly from heart issues on Thursday January 9, 2025. He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Camille (Douglas) Jessop; Jacqueline (Ken) Romney; Kaylene (Eric) Parkinson; Mark (Angela) McArthur and Matthew Layne McArthur and his many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Keith Glen McArthur and Dorothy Tucker McArthur.

In addition to his family and friends, Robert shared a special bond with his dog, Bernard, who brought great joy to his life.
