Robert Emmett McKenna

Robert Emmett McKenna, 92, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2017. He was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who left a legacy of kindness and giving.
He was born on August 10, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, the son of James Francis McKenna and Cecelia Poorman McKenna Warner. He was raised in Ogden where he attended school and graduated from Ogden High School.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Deacon’s Quorum Instructor in the Ogden 11th Ward. He also served as a Deacon’s Quorum Instructor and Primary Teacher in the Ogden 49th Ward.
He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army for three years in the 62nd Armored Infantry Battalion, 14th Armored Division. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for exemplary conduct in ground combat.
He graduated from Weber College and Utah State University.
Bob was gifted and talented in many ways and had a passion for learning and teaching. He loved reading, especially history and mysteries, and enthusiastically shared that love with anyone who would listen. He taught school in Weber County for six years and in Ogden City for 25 years. He gave everything he had to teaching, always going above and beyond to enhance the lives of his students.
In retirement, Bob volunteered in Weber County Schools for nearly 20 years and received many letters of commendation locally and nationally for his service.
Bob is survived by his brother, Delbert Warner, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim McKenna, Ted Warner, and Keith Warner and a sister, Catherine Burrows.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
