Robert Kendall Peel
FARMINGTON a" Robert Kendall Peel, 79, passed away September 28, 2010, at his home in Farmington, Utah, after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born on March 22, 1931, in South Gate, California, the son of Hilda Robinson and Vern R. Peel. Bob attended schools in California, graduating from Pomona High School where he ran the low hurdles in track, setting a school record his senior year. At age 12, he joined the Boy Scouts of America and obtained the rank of Eagle.
Bob was a member of the LDS Church. He served a mission to Great Britain from 1951-53, and then returned home and entered the cadet program and became a navigator and 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force. Bob served in the 85th ATS, flying in C-124 transport planes to Japan and points in between. In answer to prayer, Bob received an assignment to Travis Air Force Base where he met his wife, Barbara Stubbs. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 3, 1955.
In 1957, Bob left active duty in the Air Force and attended and graduated from Brigham Young University. After college, he taught seminary for the LDS Church at West High School, but his plans were altered when his Air Force unit was called into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. That change took Bob and the family to Layton, Utah, where he was reassigned at Hill AFB, to Taiwan for two years, and finally to George AFB near Victorville, California.
In 1971, Bob was released from active duty and the family settled in Farmington, Utah, where Bob worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He also remained in the Air Force Reserves, and retired as a Lt. Colonel. Bob lived the rest of his life in Farmington, except for the time he and Barbara served in the Nigeria Lagos Mission.
During his retirement years, Bob enjoyed serving in Church callings, serving as a temple worker in the Bountiful Utah Temple and in the Family History Library, working in his garden and yard, reading endless books, supporting BYU sports, and being with his family and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Marvin Peel, his daughter Karen, grandson William Hudson, and brother-in-law Arthur Ruchti.
Bob is survived by his dear wife, Barbara; three daughters, Debbie (Karl), Mary Ann (Bill), Linda (Mark), two sons, Steven (Trish) and David (Blythe); a sister, Beverly, and three brothers, Richard, David, and Melvin. Bob was blessed with twenty grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
