Robert M. Sedgwick
PLEASANT VIEW a" Robert M. Sedgwick, 86, died peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 18, 1922 in Galion, Ohio and was adopted by Floyd and Cecil Sedgwick. He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio.
After graduation, he worked for Ohio Bell and United Airlines before his induction in the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II, he served with distinction in France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. His unit was involved in the Battle of the Bulge, the initial invasion of Germany, and the liberation of concentration camps. He received the Good Conduct Medal, The Distinguished Unit Badge, the Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars. The frostbite he suffered during the war continued to cause medical problems throughout his life, but he was proud to have served his country.
Bob attended Fenn College and Bowling Green State University, both in Ohio.
He married Betty Jean Wuebker on August 9, 1947, and they were happily married for 61 years until Betty died on March 25, 2008.
Bob worked for General Motors in Ohio from 1951 to 1981. After retirement, they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. Bob and Betty loved their retirement; they had a boat and fished every day in the Gulf of Mexico. Bob also loved to fish for pike, walleye and lake trout in Canada. He was a huge fan of all Cleveland sports, including the Cleveland Browns, the Indians, and the Cavaliers. He also cheered for the Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers. Bob and Betty joined the Deep Creek Golf Club where they socialized and golfed with their friends for many years. Bob won the President''s Cup in 2002 and 2004, the last at the age of 82. He was a master craftsman who made his own golf clubs. Bob had also mastered the art of car buying, finessing many a great deal, much to the chagrin of car dealers in Ohio and Florida and to the amusement of immediate family members.
Bob and Betty moved to Pleasant View, Utah in 2006 to be near family. Bob loved to follow the stock market, read the newspaper every day, and spoil Tilly, his daughter''s basset hound. Bob was fortunate to be able to live life to the fullest.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Kathy Ann Sedgwick and her husband Ron Tymcio; his son, Robert Sedgwick, two grandsons, Brandon and Christopher Sedgwick; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Wendell Robinson; his niece Susan Paul and her son, Sean; and his nephew, Terry Robinson and his wife Janis.
His dearly loved wife, Betty, his parents, and his daughter-in-law, Darlene Sedgwick, preceded Bob in death.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Pastor DanaLee Simon, and Stephen Minister Barbara Lyons of Elim Lutheran Church, and the doctors and staff at McKay-Dee Intensive Care Unit.
Memorial services and inurnment will be held later at Evergreen Cemetery in Westlake, Ohio.
