Robert Merlin Shafer

OGDEN a€" Robert Merlin Shafer, 69, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 at home with his family around him.

He was born on May 9, 1942 to John Merlin and Elizabeth Wight Shafer in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Robert worked as an Electrical Engineer at ICAO until his retirement in 1997. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and has held various callings including Branch President of Grand Cayman, CI. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator, traveling and spending time with his family.

Robert married his sweetheart, Maria Angelica, in November 14, 1986 in the LDS Mexico City Temple.

Surviving him are his wife, children, Erik Shafer, Singapore; Scott Shafer, Annapolis, MD; William Shafer, Ogden; Liisa Shafer, Laval Quebec, Canada; Anja Shafer, Boston, MA; Kristiina Shafer, Logan; Amy Shafer, Ogden; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are 2 brothers, Howard and Gordon, 4 sisters, Elizabeth Sweeten, Marian Bergin, Alice Shafer, and Margaret Orton.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Care Hospice for their loving care.
