Robert Joseph Stone, 84, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.
He was born December 13, 1927 in Keenesburg, Colorado to Albert and Victoria Heronema Stone.
During World War II, Robert served in the Merchant Marines. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart.
On March 21, 1951, Robert married the love of his life, Maxine Ekstrom in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 28, 1972. Together they raised two daughters.
He retired from Hill Air Force Base as Supervisor of the Boiler Operators and Steam Fitters.
Robert was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served diligently in all of his callings. Those included Ward Clerk, Stake Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, Missionary at Cove Fort, Temple worker at the Ogden and St. George LDS Temples.
He enjoyed many years at the Ogden Boat Club with his family and friends.
Robert leaves behind his eternal companion, Maxine; their two daughters, Jeannie (Allen) McEntire, Syracuse; Sally Kay (Eric) Lyon, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Poulson, Jacob (Britney) McEntire, Laura (David) McNeely, Marci (Brandon) Drake, Robert Stone Lyon, Jeffrey Stone Lyon; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Cookie) Stone, San Bernadino, CA; and one sister, Dorothy Cox, Roy. He will be greatly missed by his posterity. He was their hero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty Erker, Genevieve Vanderpool, and two brothers, Johnny Stone and Leroy Stone.
The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy, Utah and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11th at 11 a.m. at the Clinton 25th Ward Chapel, 2841 West 1300 North, Clinton, Utah.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
