Robert W. Tegeder, Sr., our devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away of natural causes on May 27, 2012, at the age of 88.
He was born on September 12, 1923 in the farming community of Meredosia, Illinois to Dorthea Roegge and John Tegeder. He was the youngest of four children and the only one to leave the farm to pursue a college education. In 1949, he graduated from Concordia Teacher''s College in River Forest, Illinois and went on to get a master''s degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. He was a teacher at the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit from 1950-1957.
Robert and his family then moved to Ogden, Utah where he served as a Principal at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind from 1957 to 1959 and Superintendent from 1960 to 1978. He continued to work for Utah''s Department of Public Education as a Consulting Specialist for the Hearing Impaired until he retired in 1987. He and his wife settled in Clearfield, Utah.
In 1950, Robert married his childhood sweetheart, E. Bernice Korsmeyer (who passed away in 2009). He was a big sports fan and if the St. Louis Cardinals were playing baseball, he was watching, as he was a lifelong fan. He was also a big supporter of Weber State athletics and the Utah Jazz.
Robert was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogden, for 50+ years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and siblings. He is survived by his 4 children, Robert Tegeder, Jr. (Wendy), of Renton, Washington; Marjorie Tegeder of Clearfield; Jane Cameron (Randy) of Salt Lake City; and Alice Peterson (Randy) of Boise, Idaho; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3329 Harrison Blvd. in Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
