Robert “Bob” Veals, Sr. quietly left this life on the afternoon of October 25, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. Bob was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 30, 1932 to Earnest Thomas and Rachel Massengill Veals. At the tender age of seventeen he joined the US Army and spent one year in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He moved to Ohio where he graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Janet Elaine Rein in 1953. They were parents of six children, Kim Elaine Tinkey, Somerset, PA; Robert Charles (MaryAnne) Veals; Danice Kay Tavizon, Ogden, UT; Barry Scott Veals, Craig, CO; Dion Anthony Veals, Ogden, UT; Kirstie Rachel (Buddy) Bennett, Clearfield, UT.
In 1958, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his family were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1971.
Bob worked for Thermadisk and Mansfield Tire and Rubber. He also owned/operated three service stations and was President of the Gasoline Dealers Association of Ohio. In 1977, the family moved to Utah and Bob was employed by Thiokol’s Engineering Department.
His wife, Janet, passed away suddenly on January 31, 1985 while living in Brigham City, Utah.
Later he married Virginia Sparks and her five children were added to his life, Lynette (Pete) Eaquinta, Helper, UT; Debra (Bob) Harper, Chandler, AZ; Diane (Jason) Williams, Bountiful, UT; Susan (Mike) Giles, Tremonton, UT; and Chad (Holly) Grover, Garland, UT. Bob and Virginia moved to North Ogden in 1986. They served a mission in Nauvoo during the dedication of the temple. He served as Elder’s Quorum President, Assistant Ward Clerk, and a member of the High Council, and the Ward Sunday School Presidency. He was a faithful Home Teacher. He is a member of the North Ogden Kiwanis Club. His hobbies included refurbishing old player pianos, golfing, fishing and watching Western movies, especially those starring John Wayne. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia Veals; one brother, Clifford (Judy) Veals of Seymour, TN; two sisters, Wanda Stinnett and Mary Veals, both of Knoxville, TN; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 12 p.m. at the North Ogden 20th Ward, 575 East 3100 North. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
