On Saturday, August 10, 2013, our loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa was unexpectedly called home while on vacation from Brea, CA, visiting family in Ogden, UT.
Robert Dale Wahlen, 84 years old, was born on July 11, 1929, to Robert Davidson and Calla Howlett Wahlen, in their home in Logan, UT. He grew up in Ogden and attended Ogden High School. After he graduated in 1947, his best friend introduced him to Sharon Lucille Davis who became his eternal sweetheart. They were married June 19th, 1950 at the Bertha Eccles Center in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland LDS Temple.
He attended Weber College and University of Utah, where he graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for Chevron Corporation and was transferred to San Francisco, CA in 1961, moving his family to Novato, CA. Although they never returned to Utah to live, every summer they packed up the station wagon and drove to Ogden to visit family. Family was very important to Dale.
Dale was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout his life. For the past 20 years, he and Sharon have volunteered in the Gift Shop at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, CA.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Sharon from Brea, CA; four daughters, Debra (Craig) Broswell from Chino Hills, CA; Janna Wahlen from Brigham City, UT; Melinda (Gary) Kockler from Pleasant View, UT; Lisa (Guglietti) currently married to Kevin Sorensen from Mantua, UT; and Mark (Sharla) Glassman of Placentia, CA; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Bradbury of Ogden, UT, and his brother, Dr. Jack (Bonnie) Wahlen of Ogden, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Jean; nephew, Robert Bradbury; and great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Skylar Broswell.
Dale overcame lung, kidney, and prostate cancers; a heart attack; dialysis; a kidney transplant; and various other surgeries because of his determination to continue to enjoy life here with his family. He remained extremely active until the moment he was taken from us. He left this world, peacefully in his sleep, while at his daughter''s home. He was immediately surrounded by his loving family, who feel fortunate that his passing occurred while his wife and four daughters were all in town at the same time. He will be dearly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant View 11th Ward Chapel at the corner of 500 W. 3100 N. (Weber High Dr.), Pleasant View, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
