Robert “Bob” Gordon Burbidge

OGDEN - Robert “Bob” Gordon Burbidge passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, September 1, 2014. Robert was born on February 27, 1923 to James William and Lucille Chase Burbidge in Ogden, Utah. Robert enjoyed playing football and was the captain of his Ogden High School team. He graduated in 1941 and in 1943 married the love of his life Bonnie Drake prior to joining the Army Air Force where he served honorably until February of 1946.

Robert and Bonnie spent several blissful years prior to the birth of their four children who Robert spoiled with love and all of his attention. Being self-employed and always an early riser, Robert was able to get his work done in the early hours of the day so that he could spend late afternoons with his family. Taking all of his children to the driving range or golf course was one of his favorite pastimes. Following his retirement Robert and Bonnie traveled extensively throughout Europe enjoying many historical sites, monuments and museums, which were his favorite He loved recounting all the exciting places they visited and could spend hours describing the details of the architecture or interesting people they had met. Robert had a lifelong love of learning and set a great example for his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, sometimes reading several books each week.

Robert was a great supporter of Little League football and baseball, sponsoring several youth teams throughout the Ogden area. He loved attending Utah Jazz games, and watching Pro Football on TV, especially the Oakland Raiders.

He was the baby of seven children, six boys and one girl, all who have passed on before him. Robert was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert Drake.  He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jane; his daughters, Lisa Burbidge, Roy; Patrice (Greg) Faust,  NM; and April (Jeff) Ambrose, Ogden; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Tiffany and her team at Applegate Hospice and everyone at Mt. Ridge for their kindness and care of our dad.

Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24 th St. Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. A celebration of Robert’s life will follow at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave, Ogden.
