Roberto Marcano
SOUTH WEBER – Roberto Marcano, 62, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2010 with his loving wife by his side.
He was born March 1, 1948 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Mercedes Roman and Lucas Evangelista Marcano. The family moved to the Bronx, New York where he was raised with his mom Mercedes and sister Nereida.
At the age of 20, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served two tours in the Vietnam War. Roberto moved to California and worked for the Youth Authority then Federal Service as a painter at McClellan AFB. He then relocated to Utah in 1999 at Hill AFB and retired in 2005.
Roberto had many talents. He had a passion for photography and art. He was best known for his swift moves on the basketball court. Roberto was proud of his Puertorican Heritage. Cooking hometown dishes was his love, as well as salsa music and dancing the salsa. Family was very important to Roberto. He was protective, loving and proud of his beautiful children, Derek, Tereena and Kereena.
Roberto had a strong faith in God, enjoyed bible study and was an active member in his church.
His hobbies included collecting basketball cards, antiques, and working in his yard. He also loved to play dominoes with his brother-in-law Jesse Villalobos and loved his extended family from his first marriage.
Roberto is survived by his wife Annette, loving children Derek, Tereena and Kereena, and his beautiful granddaughter Monique Ashley-Lopez-Marcano.
He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Nereida and Bill Fortune and their children; sister-in-law, Maritza and her children; brothers from Mom’s second marriage, Felix, David, and Ruben Garcia; sister-in-law, Jeanette Roybal, brother-in-law, Tony Roybal and godson, Anthony Roybal; sister-in-law, Debbie Tobar, brother-in-law Jerry Tobar, niece Jessica Tobar, nephew Jerry Tobar, mother-in-law, Mitzi Salsberry, mother-in-law, Brenda Torres, father-in-law, Victor Torres, sister-in-law, Cindy Torres, grandmother-in-law, Mary Jane Frame; and many cousins in Puerto Rico, California and Utah.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mercedes Roman, father, Lucas Evangelista Marcano, brother, Lucas Marcano, and his father-in-law, William R. Salsberry.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Mountain View Nursing facility and Hospice staff. Also, thanks to Christian Worship Center Family, and neighbors for all your prayers, help and support.
Funeral services will be held in California. Interment, Calvary Cemetery in Citrus Heights, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
