Rodney Edwin Earl

February 25, 1931 – April 19, 2017

LAYTON – Rodney completed his work in mortality and returned to his Heavenly Father on April 19, 2017 at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 25, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marva Udy and Edwin Byron Earl.  He was raised in Farmington, Utah.  He attended Davis High School where he participated in high school sports and met the love of his life Bernice Sullivan.  They were later married on May 19, 1950.  They lived in Farmington for two and a half years before moving to Layton to help care for Bernice’s mother.  They purchased her family home where they raised their five children.  They were sealed as a family on June 25, 1970 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

His interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, umpiring softball, his horses and volunteering at Antelope Island.  He served in the bishopric of the Layton 4th Ward and many other positions in the church.  He had a love of the gospel and loved to serve.

He is survived by his children: Patricia (Ray) Zaugg, Syracuse, UT; Reid (Charmalee) Earl, Clinton, UT; Linda Cay (Joseph) Knudson, Centennial Park, AZ; Curtis (Tiffany) Earl, Layton, UT and Christine Earl, Layton, UT.  Survived by sister-in-law Louise Mann, South Jordan, UT.  He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Bernice, his parents, sister Noreen (Louis) Cook and brother Brent Earl, in-laws: Daniel and Ida Robins Sullivan, Maurine and Perry Morley, Stan Mann and four great-grandchildren: Aidan, Braxton and Caleb Wall and Camry Baker.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Park Street LDS Chapel, 275 Park Street.  Friends may visit with family Monday April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

A special thank you to Crystal and Stephanie at Legacy Home Health Care.  Also the nurses and staff at Thatcher Brook Rehab Center and Dr. Michael Beus for his friendship and care.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation under Marcus Rawlins his great-grandson or your favorite charity.
