Rodney Jay Eggett
"Thumper"
1942-2014
Surrounded and loved by his family, Rodney left this world peacefully and in no more pain, at the age of 72, after a strong and courageous 2 1/2 year battle with cancer, on Saturday June 21 st , 2014.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, January 23, 1942, the youngest son to John Thomas and Edna Lynch Eggett and twin brother to Roger Kay. Alongside some of his older brothers and sisters, Rod was raised on a farm in Bountiful, Utah. He later joined the Air Force in 1961 and was stationed on a radar base in Iowa where he met his sweetheart and future wife Bettie Robinson. After returning to Davis County, Rodney was a Bountiful City Firefighter for a short time, became an active member of the Bountiful Jeep Posse, which would be, and always was, a huge part of his life. Through dedicated service to the community and social interactions with friends and family, Rod became a well-known and well-liked member of the Davis County area. The Jeep Posse was as much family tradition as it was service, joining alongside his brothers, and later joined along by nephews, cousins, his son-in-law, and his son.
Rod was self employed for over 40 years as a cement contractor. Hard working, honest, and fair would always be trademarks of his career and his personality. Rod spent his life devoted to providing for his wife and family, as well as creating a life full of laughter and enjoyment, through traveling, hunting, fishing, sand dunes, off-road trips and weekends at the cabin, a place he built by hand for his family and friends to enjoy. Between his toys, the sand rails, the motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATV's, the hot rods and cool trucks, there was always something fun and memorable happening. One of his greatest joys in life was that of being a Father and Grandpa. Sharing wisdom and skills, his garage and woodshop were always home to fun and learning. A skilled woodworker and contractor, there was almost nothing Grandpa couldn't fix or build in that shop. The time he spent with his family was always special, was always the most important to him, and meant the world to them.
Rod is survived and remembered by his wife Bettie, daughter Carey (Bobby) Valentine, son John Jay (Stefanie) Eggett, as well as grandchildren Taylor (Courtney) McDonald, James, Marinda, Lilly and Wyatt. Also survived by brothers John T. (Ann), Larry, Roger (Beverly); sisters Diane and Maxine. Preceded in death by his daughter Cristy Lee, as well as his sisters Dorothy and Nadeen, and his parents
