RODNEY MERRILL RASMUSSEN

Rodney Merrill Rasmussen, 74, of Centerville, Utah passed away Monday January 25, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah. Rod was born March 14, 1941 in Fairview, Utah to Erba and Henry Rasmussen.

Rod was raised in Fairview and as a young man attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah where he played football and served as President of the Lambda Delta Sigma Fraternity. He later attended Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and then attended the University of Utah where he earned an MBA.

Rod served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission from 1961 to 1963. He also served in many church callings throughout his life including Elder’s Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor, Young Men’s President, Home Teacher, and High Priest Group Leader.

In 1966, Rod married Kathryn Abajian.  They moved to Belmont, California then Danville, California where they raised children Kristen, Matt and Amanda.  They later divorced in 1992.

In 1994, Rod and Dianna were married in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Rod moved to Santa Rosa, California to be with his new bride and help raise children Gerald and Haley. They later moved to American Canyon, California.

Rod owned and operated a successful pest control and tree service business for many years in California.  When he retired, Rod and Dianna moved to Centerville, Utah.

Rod loved sports of all kinds.  He played college football. He spent countless hours watching, coaching, and cheering at his children’s various sporting activities. Rod loved to play church basketball.  Whether it was a local high school football game, a college bowl game, or a professional game on TV, Rod enjoyed them all.

Rod was a loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife Dianna; children Kristen (David) Price, Matt (Cammy) Rasmussen, Amanda (David) James, Haley (Kep) Baker, Gerald (Jennifer) Cochran; grandchildren: Erin, Andrew, Lauren, Katelyn Price; Shea, Dane, Ava, Leah Rasmussen; Luke, Samuel James, Cambrie, Logan Taylor, Ruby Baker; Mia, Brianna, Benjamin Cochran; brothers: Leon and Arlan Rasmussen.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Erba Rasmussen and his sister Allene Hone.

We would like to extend special thanks to all the physicians, nurses, and staff of Lakeview Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Porter Lane 2nd Ward Chapel, 435 W. 400 S. Centerville, Utah. Friends may visit family Thursday, Jan. 28th from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to services. Interment 3:00 p.m. at Fairview City Cemetery, Fairview, Utah.
