Roeche (Rocky) Michael LaSalle
Born September 7, 1925 in Akron Ohio to Joseph and Victoria LaSalle, Rocky will be remembered in passing as he was in life--a colorful and warm father, grandfather and great grandfather. Rocky served in the US Navy during World War II and was honored for his selfless and heroic conduct during major conflicts in the Pacific theater. Following the war, he lived in Southern California, and was married to Faye Hambsch in 1949. The family subsequently moved to Ogden, UT (1960) and again to Southern California (1966) before returning in 1971 to Bountiful, UT.
Rocky spent most of his professional career working in the retail grocery business, retiring as Vice President and Treasurer for Smith’s Food King. During his retirement Rocky was involved in artist selection and review with the Golden Braid bookstore. Rocky and Faye were active philanthropists and supported many local and international charitable organizations.
Rocky was preceded in death by his siblings Vicky, Theresa, Mary, Mildred, Susan, Tony, Joe, Frank, Nick and Ralph, and his wife Faye (2010), grandchildren Charlie, Megan and Clay. He is survived by daughters Adriane LaSalle (David) and Janice LaSalle; sons, Terry (Kriss), Bernie (Christine), Joel (Jill) and James (Margaret); grandchildren Chance (Terry and Kriss); Brian, Melissa, Bria, Catherine (Bernie and Christine); Ryan, Beth, Erica, Kate, Dallas (Janice); Austin, Angela, Allie (Adriane and Dave); Amanda, Stockton, McKay, Jake (Joel and Jill); Sara, Nick (James and Margaret); and 12 great-grandchildren.
Papa had a zest for life. He was creative and artistic, with a quick smile and a generous heart. He loved music and dancing and decorating his home for holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween. He and Faye were married for 61 years and they were a true team. Their years together included moving 12 times, epic family road trips and dancing and singing in the live stage production “High Fever Follies”.
Papa was an avid gardener and spent many hours talking with Janice about next year’s bulbs or visiting nurseries. His life within our family spanned decades, and in each of the generations he fostered many special relationships. Papa loved his entire family dearly but also uniquely loved and cared for each of us. We will always love and miss you Papa.
The family would like to thank Joel and Jill and their family for their full-time care and loving support of dad during his last years.
