Roger Clayton Arnold

February 23, 1936 — October 12, 2024

West Haven

Roger Clayton Arnold, born February 23, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to Troy R. and Merle Watson Arnold, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 12, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was marked by love, service, and a deep connection to both family and the outdoors.

Roger grew up in California, Idaho, and Utah, and graduated from Weber High School in 1954. He was a talented athlete, participating in football, baseball, track, and wrestling. He also played football at Weber Junior College. Roger married Annette Stokes in 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they had two children, Carl and Laurie, before Annette’s passing in 1968. In 1969, Roger married Elaine King in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they built a loving family with four sons: Chad, Troy, Matt, and Jared.

Roger had a long and distinguished career in Data Processing at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1993 as a computer programmer/analyst. He was recognized as the civilian employee of the year in 1991. After retiring, he continued his passion for working with people as a tour guide for Brian Judd Tours for 20 years, where he guided many memorable trips.

For over 50 years, Roger was the lead singer of the male quartet, “The Four R’s” performing a wide range of music, from country to Broadway tunes. The group produced five albums and entertained many with their harmony and humor.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roger was baptized after high school. He and Elaine served as CES missionaries in Edinburgh, Scotland, and later as ordinance workers and recorders in the Ogden Temple. They also served together as missionaries at the bishop’s storehouse in Ogden. His faith and commitment to service were central to his life.

Roger was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and golfing. In 2022, at the age of 86, he achieved a lifelong goal by making a hole-in-one at Remuda Golf Course. His happiest moments, however, were spent with his family, attending their events, and sharing in their lives.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine, his six children: Carl, Laurie, Chad, Troy, Matt, and Jared; 20 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Robin Arnold and two sisters, Judy White and Janet Werger. He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Arnold and his parents. His life was an example of faith, family, and the joy of living fully, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
