Roger Daniel Brian
Roger Daniel Brian, 83, passed away Tuesday January 29, at Sunridge Assisted Living in Layton, Utah after declining health due to Parkinson’s disease and lung cancer.
He was born in Ogden Utah to William Jennings Brian and Dorothy Lund Brian.
He graduated Ogden High School in 1953, attended Weber State and joined the U.S. Navy in 1955. After the Navy he traveled to Spain where he studied Classical Guitar and learned Spanish.
After his return from Spain, he married Patsy Nix Hanson. He then received his Master’s degree in Music from the University of Utah. He moved with his family to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music and was an instructor at Cal Arts.
The family returned to Ogden in 1974. He and Pat opened “Take 5” sandwich shop in the Eccles Building in downtown Ogden in 1978. Roger retired from the IRS in 1998.
He was an avid golfer and loved to marshal at professional golf tournaments. Roger’s prized possession was his Ramirez Classical guitar. He was a very accomplished musician and had a great love of the arts.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, his sister Mary Kay Power, his daughter Leslie (Dan) Caldaronello Valencia, CA; Jerry Hanson, Colorado Springs, CO; Eric Hanson, Ogden; Mark (Amberlee) Brian, Clinton; Mitch Brian, Cambridge, OH; 15 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Gretta Nix, his brother William Jennings Brian Jr, and his brother-in-law Dean Power.
Roger requested a private family graveside service that will be held later this Spring.
