Roger Woods Davis
1940-2014
Roger Woods Davis, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home in Centerville, Utah.
He was born on June 16, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Elmer and Charlene Davis. He was a dedicated scholar. He attended East High School and graduated from the University of Utah Cum Laude and then from their Medical School. He was awarded a Smith Kline & French Laboratories Foreign Fellowship to work in Nigeria. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and did a Surgery Residency at Duke University and also completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at the University of Utah. He married Ruth Ann Zollinger on March 2, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. He practiced medicine in Utah, North Dakota and Colorado Springs. He also served as a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and a guest examiner for the American Board of PM&R. He published, edited and presented articles in medical journals and conferences. He received his MBA from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and taught at Westminster and the University of Utah.
Roger was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-saints and served as a Bishop, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Bountiful Temple worker and his favorite calling was serving three times as a Scoutmaster. He also served several missions for his church including the Western States and in the Temple Construction Department. He was an avid genealogist and did a great deal of research and wrote several histories of his ancestors.
As an avid gardener, he loved working with roses, flowers and unusual plants and spent many happy hours in his yard. His favorite hobbies besides gardening, were golf, fishing and other activities with his children. His family and his 13 grandchildren were the joy of his life
Roger is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann and his four children Sarah (Nathan) Forbush, Trevor (Anona) Davis, Deborah (George) Wolf, and Ryan (Patricia) and his brothers and sister, Craig (Robyn), Dan (Beth) and Denise. He was preceded in death by his parents.
We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support of Dr. David Horsley , Sun Yong, Inspiration Hospice and the many friends and associates who made an effort to care for Roger during these last difficult years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Canyon View Ward Chapel, 210 E. 1825 N. Centerville, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday, Aug. 1 st from 6-8 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Sat. from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment Kaysville City Cemetery.
