Roger Dennis Holstein
September 14, 1946 – August 2, 2014
Roger D. Holstein, 67, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, left this life on August 2, 2014 on a journey to set up his camp at a better fishing hole. He died peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Roger was born on September 14, 1946 to his parents, Robert D. and Norma J. Holstein in Ogden, Utah.
He grew up sharing his heritage of Hawaiian Hospitality and was never far from family, good music and good food. He graduated from Ogden High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving six (6) honorable years in the United States Navy which included two deployments to Vietnam.
He worked the remainder of his career at Hercules and Alliant Tech Systems in Clearfield, Utah as an Engineering Technician and was awarded full credit for two national engineering patents during his tenure.
Roger was a stellar fisherman, avid outdoorsman and loved to explore nature’s nooks and crannies. He enjoyed camping, rock hounding, hunting and most of all fishing. He carried on a family tradition of gardening and growing heirloom vegetables from seeds passed down from previous generations. He could fix anything, he was practical, resourceful and valued being self-sustainable, all hobbies and qualities he heartily passed down to younger generations. He was well known for his wry sense of humor, quick wit and generosity.
Surviving are his sister, Margie (John) Loftus, Slaterville; brother, Joseph (Pat) Liu, Roy; his daughters Teresa Holstein, Tracy Holstein, Cathryn Anne Marie Holstein, his son Robert C. Holstein, eleven (11) loving grand-children and two great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Harold Johnson and Anabeth, RN at Utah Hematology along with Dr. Gary Holland, Lisa Harrison, RN and staff from Hospice for Utah for their warm care and kindness.
Roger greatly admired tropical flowers, particularly the Bird of Paradise. Flowers may be sent to the family at; 249 West Oaks Circle, Ogden, Utah 84404.
A date for a gathering of family and friends to commemorate Roger’s life is to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
