Roger Slagowski

February 23, 1941 — September 17, 2024

Centerville

Roger Slagowski was born February 23rd, 1941 to Benjamin and LaFaun Slagowski in Ogden, Utah in the McKay Dee Hospital. He spent his growing up years in Ogden, Salt Lake City, San Francisco CA., Bountiful and Centerville, Utah.

Roger served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany from 1960 to 1963. He attended and graduated from the University of Utah in 1969 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art History. Roger did not pursue that line of work but decided to dedicate himself to a more humanitarian focused career serving the state of Utah in what is now known as the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

His first assignment was in Roosevelt, Utah but was then transferred to Vernal. He later accepted an opportunity in Salt Lake City as a program specialist. He was selected and represented the state of Utah as a Trade Act Coordinator in Washington DC. He enjoyed working on many projects that helped and supported many Utahns during that time. He loved working with his co-workers. Roger always continued in his interest in art at that time by painting many landscapes and seascapes.

Roger had seven children of his own from his first marriage to Amy Anjewierden. Roger later remarried Christie Sine. Christie was the mother of seven children of her own from her first marriage. That's fourteen children in all. To say that Roger was busy would be a gross understatement.

Roger loved to go fishing with his buddies Bobby and Vern. He loved traveling across the country and abroad with Christie. He loved family history and attending church. Roger always had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoyed studying many gospel topics. Roger was always thinking of others and helping in any way he could. He especially liked to share his talent in photography.

Roger is survived by his wife Christie of 38 years; his children, Tiffany Blair, Paul Slagowski (Jennifer), Tammy Nielson (Brett), Aaron Slagowski (Becky), Mark Slagowski, Trisha Vale (Bart), Josh Slagowski (Noelle); and his older brother, Jerry Slagowski; Christie’s children: Shaunna, Stacy, Joseph A, Brian, Cami, Joel and Jalene; 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Eugene and Lafaun Christensen, and siblings Louis, Neil, Donald and sister Jeanette Burr

Roger is renowned for his great sense of humor. He was especially talented in his use of puns and clever turns of phrase.

Roger specifically requested that the following be engraved on his gravestone.

“I am unfortunately the subject of this grave plot!”
