Rokuro Nakano

Rokuro “George” Nakano 1922 ~ 2011 Rokuro “George” Nakano, born December 29, 1922, to Sanichi and Shinayo Nakano, died March 4, 2011 surrounded by his family, in Bountiful, Utah. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Miyuki; 3 children, Naomi (Bob); Cheryl; Joy (Scott); 7 grandchildren, Sydney, Shelby, Kacie, Alec, Devon, Taylor, Maddie, brother Russell (Betty), and sister-in-laws Fumi and Aileen. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and their spouses: Takeo (Lily); Gunji “Joe” (Tomi); Shizu “Cecil” Miya (Manji); Kenichi “Kenzo”; Shiro; Goro “John”; Hichiro “Jeep”; Fusako Kakuda (Frank); Suyeo “Frank”. He graduated from Davis High school. He served during World War II in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team – I Company, from 1944 to 1946 as a Rifleman with the rank of PFC. From childhood he worked on the family farm. Later in his life he worked as a turkey farmer, gardener and custodian. His wife Miyuki worked by his side for many years. In his retirement he worked as a bagger. He received the rank of Black Belt in Judo and was also certified as a Sensei. He taught at the Syracuse Judo Club for many years. He was a member of the Syracuse Buddhist Church, Ogden Buddhist Church and the SLC Buddhist Church. He was an active member of the Hiroshima Kenjinkai, Shizuoka Kenjinkai and Japanese Gardner’s Association. He loved fishing, gardening, Judo, trying new foods, and watching old western shows. He most loved being with his family and going to have coffee/breakfast with his buddies. In his later years, he loved to be with his grandchildren Sydney, Shelby, Kacie, Taylor, Alec, Devon and Maddie and watch them grow. He will be remembered as a quiet, hard working, honorable man who loved his family and friends, and having a good time. Family and community were everything to him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery.
