Roland B. Hadley

It is with sweet peace we share with everyone the passing of our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Roland Butler Hadley. Dad stepped through the veil April 18, 2017 at home, where he always wanted to be. He leaves behind as a gift to his family a legacy of faith, hard work, and service to all. He lived as he believed and we honor his name.

He was born at his grandmother’s home in Marriott, Utah on January 9, 1931 to Alonzo and Iretta Hadley. He joined a family which later grew to include 11 children. All of his family was at the veil to greet him except Joan Shultz and Gordon (Maxine) Hadley, who are still with us today.

On May 31, 1950 he married the love of his life, Murna Farr for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They shared almost 67 years together creating family memories that will last forever.

Dad embraced life to the fullest. He loved to hunt and fish and take his boys to the Uintahs on horseback and spend summers water skiing at Bear Lake. He loved to travel, he loved to farm, he loved to garden – always sharing his amazing produce with everyone, but most of all he loved to sing. Music filled his life to the brim and it was the very essence of his soul. His quartet, “The 4 R’s” sang together for 50 years, performing on continents far and wide, and towards the end he enjoyed the brotherhood of the Men of Song.

He loved the Lord and he loved to serve. He fulfilled callings as high counselor, 1st counselor in the Hooper Utah Stake Presidency and he was called as the first Stake President of the newly formed Kanesville, Utah Stake. Together with Murna he loved serving missions to Armenia and Palmyra, New York. His greatest joy came as he served as 1st counselor in the Ogden Temple presidency, where he received the authority to seal families, which he did happily to the end of his life.

He was a man of integrity and a man that knew the meaning of work. He had been employed by Meadow Gold Dairy and Gerber Baby Food Company, and in the afternoons and evenings he could be found refereeing basketball and umpiring baseball.

His wonderfully faithful wife Murna, whom he loved with all of his soul, was at his side until his last breath. He loved and served and supported his five children and their spouses, Van (Kaye) Hadley, Sandra (Jim) Gremillion, Mark (Kristin) Hadley, Lisa (Mike) Meyer, and Kevin (Shannon) Hadley. He was grandpa to 33 grandchildren, and great-grandpa to 56 lucky great-grandchildren. Together each one enjoyed his wit and humor and were witness to the pure graciousness he carried throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Tiffany Bennett, Ellie Morley and Crystal Simmons for their kind service to our father during his last days on the earth.

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” Countless souls were the recipients of his love and his service. Welcome home Dad.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Kanesville Ward, 4700 West 3330 South. The family will meet with friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
