Rolla Fryer

April 24, 1937 — July 2, 2023

Lake Point

On Sunday, July 2, 2023, Rolla Alvin Fryer, widower, father of 5, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away at the age of 86.  Rolla was born on April 24, 1937, in Ogden, Utah. He grew up on his parent’s family farm in Slaterville, Utah. He married Darlene Tullis (d. 2020) in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept 13, 1957.

As a young boy working on the farm, he learned how to work hard and serve others. He then served his country for two years in the U.S. Army and two more years in the Army reserves while working for the postal service repairing equipment. He continued his love for mechanical things by maintaining, servicing, and repairing a wide range of equipment for the IRS.

Rolla always found a way for vacations, camping and other activities that provided many cherished memories.

After retiring, he was the primary caregiver to Darlene, who had multiple health issues. He stood steadfast and non-wavering to do what he felt was right and sacrificed many things from his bucket list to ensure she was taken care of.

Rolla was a tinkerer and enjoyed working with his hands designing, fabricating, and fixing things. It was common for him to have TVs, motorcycles, cars, and other small engine repairs in various stages in his workshop. He was always helping people whenever he could. If he wasn’t working in his workshop, one could find him in his garden where he grew fruits and vegetables to give to others and for home canning.

Rolla was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, his father Earn, his mother Ella, his brother Merlin, and his sister June. He is survived by his brother Keith, his sister Earna (Ken); two daughters, Darla and Rolene (Evan); three sons Darroll (Amy), Ron (Susan), and Criss; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
