Romaine Platts Howard 1922 -2011

Romaine Platts Howard passed away May 22, 2011. Romaine (Rody) was the sixth of seven daughters, born to Orla Louisa Coltrin Platts and Parley Roy Platts, September 24, 1922 in Woods Cross, Utah. Rody grew up on a 12 acre farm where she, from a very young age, thinned beets, hoed onions, cut asparagus, fed chickens and milked cows. She loved to play softball and was an early member of the Utah Shamrocks Women''s Softball team that later achieved national prominence. She also danced competitively at Davis High School, winning a state wide championship at Brigham Young University as a senior. After meeting Max Ellis Howard, the brother of a teammate, they started a long courtship that culminated in marriage just before Max shipped off to the European theater as a tank commander during WWII. After the war, Rody and Max were sealed for time and all eternity by Elder David O. McKay in the Salt Lake Temple on December 7, 1945. They started their lives together farming in Oregon and Idaho later moving to South Bountiful where she lived the rest of her life raising a son, Dennis A. Howard and a daughter, Cheri Lynn Kremer.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, fulfilling many ward and stake callings.

Rody is survived by son Denny (Linda), daughter Cheri, sister Lucille Frearson, sister-in-law Larae Dillingham, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Max Ellis Howard and grandchildren Jamie Lynn Rawlins and Spencer W. Howard.

A special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Lakeview Hospital, the wonderful nurses of Inspiration Hospice, and the Life Care Center in Bountiful for her tender care.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Orchard 4th Ward Chapel, 55 E. 350 North, North Salt Lake where friends may visit from 9:45-10:45 prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
