Ronald Dean Fernelius

Our beloved father, Ronald Dean Fernelius, passed away peacefully at his home, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
Dean was the 11th child of Heber Arthur and Laura May Bybee Fernelius. He was born on December 7, 1928, in Castle Rock, Utah. He lived in many towns growing up, spending the majority of his younger years in Devils Slide and Uintah. He graduated from Weber High School, earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Weber Junior College, a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Utah, and a Masters Degree in Education from Utah State University.
Dean married Darlene Beard of Coalville in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 9, 1954. They are the parents of 7 children, 26 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
A Korean War Veteran, Dean served in the Army Corps of Engineers and later taught elementary school for 39 years. He was a part time custodian for more than 15 years at South Clearfield Elementary School. He worked part time for Ogden City Recreation for 31 years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in a Bishopric, as Elder’s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Stake Clerk, Stake and Ward Sunday School President, Ward Finance Clerk (9 years), Ward Executive Secretary, Ward Athletic Director (10 years), Stake Athletic Director (16 years), German Extraction Specialist, Building Coordinator (30 years), and other callings.
He served his community for 12 years on the town council, 16 years as Mayor and 30 years as Water Master of the Mountain Stream Irrigation Co.
Dean is survived by his children, Bryan and Lisa Fernelius, Pennsylvania; Arthur and Kathy Fernelius, South Weber; RaDene and Eric Swain, Roy; Brennan and Sherie Fernelius, Layton; Darnell and Holly Fernelius, Uintah; Marlene and Kevin Johnson, Eden; and Heber Fernelius, Uintah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his parents, Heber and Laura Fernelius; and all 10 of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Uintah 1st Ward, 6660 South 1775 East. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Uintah City Cemetery.
A special thanks to the many health care providers as well as the employees of Applegate Home Health Care and Hospice who so diligently cared for and served dad.
