Ronald Sandstrom McBride, a recent resident of Utah, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Ogden, Utah. He was born on April 7, 1957, to Clifton Ronald and Beverly Jean Sandstrom McBride in Los Angeles, California.
Ron was married to Anita Stricklen and is the father to Kathleen “Katie” Lynn McBride Jones.
Ron resided in Los Angeles, California for nearly 58 years. He graduated from El Camino College, Los Angeles in 1989, and California State University of Long Beach in 2001. He worked in the Defense Industry for Hughes Aircraft and then on Commercial Satellites for Raytheon.
Ron first introduced the family to Tito’s Tacos, in Culver City, when he was in high school. Still a family favorite! Ron loved the surf and the snow. From the beach to the slopes, Ron’s love of the outdoors led him to participate in triathlons, outrigger canoeing, rock climbing and more. His greatest enjoyments were biking the Los Angeles coastline, beach volleyball in Manhattan Beach, skiing and snowboarding at Snowmass or Mammoth (or any fresh powder, for that matter!), and the scuba diving trips that took him around the world, with family and friends.
Ron was a Beloved Son, Mischievous Brother, Fun Uncle, endearing friend, and the Life of the party. In 1992, he adopted the moniker “Captain Ron” amongst all his family and friends. Resonating with the beach loving, anything-goes boat captain played by Kurt Russel, he kept a copy of the movie for 30 years.
A good Saturday in the fall, was Ron, and long-time friend, Dave, watching Michigan football on TV, followed by a USC Trojan football game. He was a Dodger and Trojan fan for Life. FIGHT ON!
In 2015, Ron moved to North Shore Oahu, Hawaii with Erin and Matt Frederick where he was especially close with his nieces and nephew and their families. He became a fan of Kahuku High Football and living life Hawaiian-style.
In 2021, Ron relocated to Utah where his mother resided. Once again, mother and son were able to spend time together, and share their love of USC football.
Ron was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ron is survived by his daughter, “Katie” Kathleen Jones; son-in-law, David Jones; grandsons, Ethan Nickell and Kellan Jones; mother, Beverly Jean McBride; sisters, Martha Clayson, Sunni and Jim Gerszewski, Erin and Matt Frederick; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father, C. Ronald McBride and brother-in-law, Fred Clayson.
Interment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
