Ronald Francis Onstead

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Ronald Francis Onstead, passed away at age 61 on Wednesday, September 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 11, 1953 to J.W. Onstead and Betty Ruth Davis in Richmond, California. After being married, then divorced, he met the love of his life MaryAnn Beaton and were married on June 13, 2003.

Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 1972 and retired after an honorable 20 years of service.  He then worked for the Department of Defense for 37 years and retired from Hill Air Force Base. He received hundreds of awards and accolades for his hard work, innovation, and dedication.  Continuing his career, he worked for ES3, Inc. until he was diagnosed with cancer.

Ron had a passion for golfing, fishing, travelling, the Oakland A’s and the San Francisco 49ers.  He loved his family and kept a close relationship with all of them.

He had many talents, could fix anything that was broken, and could work a crossword puzzle with his eyes closed.  His personality was magnetic and you could always go to him for a joke or a laugh.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn; two children Shawna and Stephany (Matthew); stepchildren Joel, Brian, and Alanna; 4 grandchildren Dominique, Joshua, Everly, and Ava.  Brothers Alan (Star), Larry (Lillian), sister Sandy (Jeff), and stepfather George (Dorothy).

His only wishes were for his ashes to be scattered at Bodega Bay in California, where he enjoyed camping and crabbing from the pier with his family.  He also wanted AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” played loudly at his memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
