Ronald Henry Phipps
September 19, 1932 ~ December 17, 2014
In loving memory of Ronald Henry Phipps born on September 19, 1932 and passed away peacefully in the company of family on December 17, 2014 at the age of 82.
Ron was born in Ogden, to Leslie H. and Elizabeth Hortense Henderson Phipps. Ron had a great love of music throughout his life and an appreciation for the beauties of nature.
He attended Ogden High School where he was a member of a quartet and sang in the choir and Glee Club. He had a rich, beautiful voice and was always willing to share his talent.
While in Junior High School he met and became friends with Marjorie Joyce McCall. Upon his graduation from High School they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Ron worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Internal Revenue Service, and Hill Air Force Base where he worked for 32 years. Ron was most proud of his work as the Logistics Specialist for the Titan II Missile Training Equipment Program and later as the Program Manager for the F-16 acquisition team.
Ron and Marjorie enjoyed bowling and square dancing, even served as presidents of the Quarter Promenades square dancing club.
One of Ron’s favorite “extra” roles was as Santa as ZCMI’s Breakfast With Santa for over 20 years.
Ron was very active in the LDS Church serving in many capacities over the years and even in two Bishoprics.
In the late 1990’s they purchased a mobile home and then later a park model in Saint George and enjoyed many years as winter residents of the Temple View RV Park. They were very involved in golf, bike riding, walks, and travel with so many friends in Saint George. One of the highlights for Ron was organizing wonderful musical variety shows down there. He was a natural!
Ron is survived by his wife, Marjorie and children, Cherie (Mike) Nelson, Kevin (Vicki) Phipps, and Rodney Phipps; a sister, Ione Payton; nine grandsons, Matthew Nelson, Tory Nelson, Christopher Phipps, Scott Nelson, Tyson Phipps, Ryan Nelson, David Phipps, Collin Phipps, and Joshua Phipps; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Ron always found joy in sharing his music, and he loved life, but he firmly believed that…the best was yet to come!
