Ronald James Rigby
LAYTON a" Ronald James Rigby, our quiet, gentle husband, father, and loving grandpa passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 11, at 12:40 p.m. in Mountain Green, Utah while performing his last act of service on this earth.
Ron''s life was one of constant service. Whenever he saw a need, he would do anything to fill it without complaint.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Stanley Rigby and Lucille Christensen in July of 1940. He spent his early years close to his grandparent''s fruit farm and would talk often of his enjoyment in the orchards. He grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Olympus High and graduated in 1958. During high school, he took an electronics course, which led to his vocation as an electronics technician at Hill Air Force Base. He worked there for 35 years.
In 1959, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. He was stationed in Michigan for three of those years and that is where he met his wife, Carolyn. They made their home in Layton and have lived there for 46 years until his passing.
Ron was an active and faithful member of the LDS church. He has served in many callings, including ward clerk and various other technical and audio visual support callings. He currently was serving as the Layton Utah Stake Meetinghouse Technical Specialist, a calling that he had maintained for over 30 years.
The greatest calling that he fulfilled was his faithful service as a husband, father, and grandfather. He wore many hats. He was our banker that never kept track of our debts, our auto mechanic, plumber, carpenter, and chemist that sometimes got kicked out of the house because of smells he would create. The grandkids lovingly called him the "mad scientist". They would often venture to his shed to see what creations they could make with him.
He spent countless hours allowing his grandchildren to pull him around by the finger and order him around. He built tree houses and forts, assisted with science projects and loved and served, and served some more. He will be sorely missed.
Ron is survived by his wife, Carolyn, one sister, Kathy (Bob) Bringhurst, two sons: Stephen Rigby and James Brian (Crystal) Rigby, four daughters: Karen Jamison, Pam (Don) Jamison, Cyndi (Brandon) Flitton and Amy Winegar, and eight grandchildren: K.C. Jamison, Austin Flitton, Carson Flitton, Allison Flitton, Caitlyn Flitton, Colton Rigby, Kate Rigby, and Taran Winegar.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Central Ward, 60 W. Gordon. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
