Ronald Lee Schilling

LAYTON - Ronald Lee Schilling, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born in 1928, in Pekin, Illinois, to Charles George Schilling and Hazel Bennett Schilling. After high school he joined the United States Army, serving with the occupation forces in Japan. Ron married Marie Elizabeth Deros in Pekin, Illinois, in 1949. They moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1952. They moved to Layton where they raised five children.

Ron worked in civil service at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years as a machinist. After retiring he worked at Dallas Green’s Layton Farm Supply. He was an avid horseman and professional drummer, playing with several dance bands in the state and The Western Yeoman. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church, serving in many church callings. He enjoyed volunteering at the L.D.S. Bishop’s Storehouse in Layton for many years.

He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Marie and his parents.

He is survived by his five children, Jim (Cheryl) Schilling, Lynette (George) Swain, Evalyn (Evan) Yearsley, Carol (Craig) Stegen and Trina (Mike) Jenkins. Ron was blessed with 16 grand children and 26 great grandchildren.

His family expresses their appreciation to Dr. J. Allen Francis, Doctors and Staff at Davis Hospital & Medical Center for Ron’s care in his final days.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
