Ronald William Schultz

Ronald William Schultz, 74, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at home, firm in the faith of Christ, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. His passing was the culmination of a battle with cancer, which began in 2008. Ronald was born October 24, 1934, the son of William Carl Schultz and Elva Rawson. Ron learned how to work hard by helping his father with the family farm. He had the privilege of growing up with his future wife Joan Hadley while attending grade school in Hooper and Weber High school. After high school, Ronald married Joan on May 14, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have lived in Kanesville (West Haven) almost all of their lives. Ronald worked as a Logistics officer at Hill Air Force Base while raising children and Charolais cattle. Ronald made sure his family learned how to garden, drive tractors, trucks, and haul hay. He also made sure they had a good time. Their yearly fishing trips to Yellowstone and vacations to Bear Lake are the source of many fond memories. Ron was active in community life. He refereed high school sports and enjoyed watching his own sons play. He served diligently for years in the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a registered Scout for the past 62 years. He served on the Farm Bureau Hooper Tomato Days Committee. Ronald was instrumental in creating the City of West Haven and served for 18 years on the City Council, even attending his last meeting on January 7, 2009. One of his greatest pleasures was singing, entertaining and traveling with "The 4R''s" for the past 49 years. They were his "brothers." Outside his family, Ronald''s greatest service was in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop, High Councilor, High Priests Group Leader, Young Men''s President and Scout Master. His latest calling was that of Branch President for the Peach Tree Assisted Living Center and a temple worker at the Ogden Temple. Ronald is survived by his wife Joan Hadley, West Haven; six wonderful children, Neil (Debbie) , Hooper; Lynn (Jana), West Haven; Chris (Kathy), Richmond; Sheri Baugh (Aaron), West Jordan; Jeffery (Tiffany), Thatcher; Gina Harper (Robert), Layton; they have 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, with more on the way.
