ROSE KAWASHIMA MIYA

1923 – 2015

Rose passed away short of her 92nd birthday on Saturday, July 4, 2015.

Rose was originally from Nebraska and was the second daughter of ten children born to Shigeichi and Tatsuo Kawashima. The family settled in San Jose, but had to move inland during the war. Utah was their last stop.

Rose met and married Kersh Miya in Utah. They raised six daughters on their farm in Clearfield.

Even 20 years after moving to SLC, people still mention her beautiful yard and the delicious produce that they harvested and sold from the house. Thanks to Terry for overseeing Mom’s care, doctor’s visits and the hospital stays. All the sisters shared in the meal preparation and constant assistance during her illnesses.

The family gives a special thanks to Mom’s wonderful caregivers: Christy, Kathy, Pat, Rose, and Valene, and to Kimmy of Canyon Home Care and Hospice.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Teruo, Satoru, Tomio, Seige, and Bill; and her sister Lillian; brothers-in-law Hiroshi Kawauchi, George Matsushita, and Tosh Miya; sister-in-law Mikki Kawauchi. She is survived by her siblings: Sue Miya, Roy, and Violet, and her sisters-in-law Sharon, Alice, Reiko, Dorothy Matsushita; her children: Trudy (Ken Miya), Joyce, Marianne (Ken Saibara), Terry (Jeff Orth), Pam (Jim Cartland), and Sunny (Malcolm Atherton); ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

According to Mom’s request, there will be a private service. Do not give koden or flowers. She asked for donations to your favorite charity, or the American Cancer Society.
