Roseann was born on August 16, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Ariel Christen Thompson and Edna Rose Sims Thompson. She graduated from Ogden High School. She was sealed for Time and All Eternity to her high school sweetheart, Dr. Almon Junior (A.J.) Bate on January 19, 1954 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Roseann will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cynthia (Craig) Gale; Michael (Debbie); Pamela (Steven) Maughan; Paul (Kim); and Peter. She will also be fondly remembered by her 22 grandchildren and 33 plus great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, David.
Roseann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and would gather new recipes from neighbors in the different places they lived. A favorite Christmas memory of her children was helping make peanut brittle and hard tac, and eating homemade fudge. Another favorite pastime of Roseann’s was canning fruits and vegetables so she could keep a plentiful food storage. She had a green thumb which provided her family with delicious fresh food and beautiful flowers to decorate the home. Known for being an excellent seamstress, she enjoyed sewing matching shirts for her children during their youth and matching pajamas for her grandchildren. She also added matching embroidery on her children's outfits and stitched beautiful needlework for her children and grandchildren.
Roseann was employed as an accountant for Ogden City and then for Standard Oil as the company transitioned the accounting books from paper to computers.
Roseann had a deep faith in the Lord and served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Relief Society President in Springfield, Ohio; Primary President in Walnut Creek, California; activities co-chair in Half Moon Bay, California; and as a temple worker with her husband in the Oakland, California LDS Temple. Genealogy was special to her and she would often share stories of relatives during family gatherings. Her family was her life’s work and her husband was the love of her life.
