Rosemary Tibbitts Killian

LAYTON – Rosemary Tibbitts Killian, 79, passed away March 8, 2020 at her home in Layton, UT. She was born October 18, 1940, the daughter of Marion Elwin and Rose Ann Wheelwright Tibbitts and the eldest of five siblings.

She graduated from Weber High School, Ogden, UT in 1958 and then graduated from Utah State University in 1962 with a degree in Education. Her first posting as a teacher was in Blanding, UT. She grew to love the American Indian people of the Southwest and spent nearly two decades there as both an elementary teacher and LDS missionary speaking the Navajo language. She helped develop the seminary program for Navajo young adults and would travel about the reservation assisting in the organization of the Relief Society there.

After moving to Tustin, CA to teach music she met and married Charles John Killian on June 30, 1979 in Logan, Utah. They were together in this life nearly 41 years and had two children, Becky and CJ.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. She loved music and was often involved in musical activities in the wards in which she served. She taught LDS seminary for 10 years and was an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the Prairie Rose Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

As a teacher, Rosemary influenced the lives of numerous people imparting a love of learning and music. At home, she enjoyed organizing family activities, gardening, sharing stories, music, and always shared her smile and love of life.

Surviving her are her husband Charles John Killian, Layton; son Charles John (Amber Kay) Killian, Clearfield; daughter Rebecca Killian (Sean) Hoffman, Liberty; two grandchildren Chaz and Brooks, brothers, Ronald Elwin Tibbitts, Kanosh; Kenneth Dean Tibbitts, Fielding; and sister Lila Eileen Tibbitts Broeder, Layton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Cheryl Ann Tibbitts Buttars.

Rosemary's family would like to thank the staff at Atlas Homecare & hospice, in particular Tiki McKinnon, for their wonderful nurses and care during the last few weeks.  They helped to make a difficult time much easier.

Graveside services will be held Satruday March 14, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at the Providence Cemetery, Providence, Utah at 1:30 p.m.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
