Roy Eldon Burke
“Love of My Life”
Roy Eldon Burke, age 93, passed away, August 19, 2013 surrounded by his family and the love of his life, his wife of 70 years, Melba Moss Burke. He was born on May 22, 1920 in Commerce, Oklahoma, to “Tommy” Thomas Roy Burke and “Maggie” Margaret Ruth Searcy. He lived most of his childhood in southern Missouri as the oldest child in a family of four boys and five girls.
Roy served two years in the United States Army and participated in the European Theatre during World War II. Roy married Melba Moss, from Clearfield, Utah on May 16, 1943. They were sealed for “Time and Eternity” in the Salt Lake Temple on February 13, 1974. Roy was a devoted father of two children, Sandra Kaye Christensen and Douglas Roy Burke. He worked at the old Navy Base in Clearfield and Defense Depot in Ogden.
His hobbies were bowling, fishing, hunting, traveling and animals. He loved talking to people sharing a laugh and a smile. However, family life was the greatest joy of Roy’s life. He loved grandkids climbing on his lap.
He will be greatly missed by those of us who loved him.
He is survived by his three brothers, James Burke, Paul Burke, Kenneth (Yoka) Burke, four sisters, Ruby Mikkelson, Mildred Perry, Susie Welch, Goldie Williams, his wife Melba, two children, Sandra Kaye (Lynn) Christensen, Douglas Roy (Eileen) Burke, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his sister Ella Mae Christensen.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 South State Street. Friends may visit family Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
