Roy William McFerson

Roy William McFerson, died on September 30, 2011 at the age of 86. He was born November 21, 1924 in Roy, Weber County, Utah, to Gerald and Eva Robinson McFerson. He grew up in Clearfield, graduated from Davis High School in 1942 and proudly served in U.S. Navy during WWII (July 1943-March 1946) in the South Pacific.

He furthered his education at the University of Utah. On September 12, 1951 he married Lola Maye Redford in the Salt Lake Temple. Their 60th anniversary was his incentive in prolonging his long illness and the thrill of seeing the U of U win over BYU in football.

Roy served as Bishop of the Clearfield 6th Ward from 1968 a€" 1974, as well the Stake High Council in three stakes. He was the Northridge Stake Executive Secretary for nine years and the Lincoln Ward High Priest Group Secretary for ten years. He and Lola served in the Ventura-California Mission from 1986-87.

He belonged to several bowling leagues and was an avid golfer and fisherman. Over a span of 33 years, he spent his vacations and later his winters trailering with family and friends. He excelled in woodworking, cement masterpieces, gardening and building golf clubs.

Roy retired from Hill AFB in 1978 (Standards Lab and Maintenance Planning) after 31 years of government service.

Surviving are his wife of Layton, son Gerald, Clinton; daughter Karen, South Ogden; brother Jed (Patricia) and sisters-in-law Lurrine McFerson, Clearfield; LaVerne Redford McQuarrie, Kaysville; and Donna Redford Glenn, Ogden; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, sister and brother-in-law Beth and J. Edward Martini, and brother David.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln LDS Chapel, 590 West 2000 North (Antelope Drive) in Layton. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, and on Saturday from 9:45 a€" 10:45 at the church.

The family extends thanks to Dr. Grant Holland for many years of heart care and Legacy Hospice Service, especially Marie Green and Kenneth James, for all their kindness and dedicated care.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, So. Ogden.

Military Honors will be accorded.
