Roy Phillip Mendoza

June 28, 1936 ~ July 2, 2014

Roy Phillip Mendoza, 78, passed away July 2, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Everett, Washington after a courageous fight with vascular dementia.

He was born June 28, 1936 in Tonopah Nevada as Roy Phillip Flores, but never knew his father, Refugio Flores who died before his birth. His mother Mary later married Manuel Mendoza and was raised by them until the death of Manuel in 1956.

He graduated from Ogden High School in 1955 and then joined the fire department at the ripe age of 21 in 1957. He retired at the rank of Captain in 1997.

He was the owner of Roy’s Cars and RV’s for many years. He worked jointly with his son for many years before leaving for Washington. He fell in love with cars at a young age working in a garage and never lost his interest in them. Working on cars and with customers were the things he enjoyed most. It was never too late to have a customer and he was very loyal to all he encountered at his business.

He was married to Joan Oldfield after high school, had two children, Sherrie and Phillip and were later divorced. He married Patricia Wold in 1966, where he adopted a daughter Lisa and had a son Scott, they were also later divorced. He married Edna Hoskins in 1986 and many years later were divorced.

He was preceded in death by his father Refugio Flores 1936, Manuel Mendoza in 1956, his mother Mary Gallegos Mendoza in 2010; He has also been preceded in death by his aunt and several uncles.

He is survived by his children Sherrie Mendoza-Swanson, Phillip Mendoza, Lisa (Brett) Bateman and Scott (Jennifer) Mendoza. Surviving Siblings are Lucy (Jim) Vongessling, Ellen Payan, Ben (Claudia) Mendoza, and Marie Mendoza. He has 8 grandchildren; Stefanie Moulton, Ryan (Stacey) Mendoza, Russell Moulton, Ashley Mendoza Esq., Elle Bateman, Cooper Bateman, Brooke Bateman, Hudson Mendoza and 1 great grandchild Easton Mendoza. He is survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday July 13th from 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary from 7-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Mass will be Monday, July 14th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Honor Guard to be provided by Ogden City Fire Department.
