Rozella Mitchell Burton Smith

November 23, 1920 – October 1, 2015

Rozella Mitchell Burton Smith age 94 passed away quietly and peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Kaysville, Utah, of causes incident to age.  She was born November 23, 1920 together with her twin sister, in a little log cabin, in Clinton, Utah, to Ray and Madeline Mitchell. Her only brother Ray, “Buzz” was also born there a year later.  “Rosie” graduated from Davis High School where she enjoyed being in the “Posture Parade,” and later attended beauty school in Ogden. She was truly blessed to enjoy good health her whole life.

In 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Lane Burton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and together they raised 3 children in their family home in Kaysville.  In 1995, she married a longtime friend Howard Smith.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints all of her life and served faithfully in the primary, mutual Sunday school and relief society organizations of the church.  In 1981 she fulfilled a mission to Spokane, Washington.  She was a wonderful homemaker and gardener and canned the produce she grew.  For over 20 years, she enjoyed working for the Davis County School district in food services and for a time worked at the Bowman’s bakery in Kaysville.  Her greatest joy in life was sharing her beautiful voice.  Growing up she sang with her twin sister and her father whenever they were asked to perform.  Her lovely soprano voice was a welcome addition to ward choirs and a trio that she performed in with her friends in the 2nd ward for many years.

She was a wonderful hostess to anyone who visited and since she lived very close to the high school, grandchildren could drop in any time for lunch or treats.  Until 2 years ago she attended monthly luncheons with her Davis High School class committee and enjoyed their friendship.  She was a true “lady” who left a remarkable legacy of love, laughter and service and will always be in our hearts.

Rosie outlived everyone in her family and is enjoying a great reunion with them.  Surviving are her children; Bob Burton, Pat (Gary) McBride and Alan Burton, 11 grandchildren, 19 ½ great grandchildren and preceded in death by 2 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10th at 11 a.m., at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main.   Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6-8 and prior to the funeral services Saturday from 9:30-10:30 at the mortuary. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Lane, in the Kaysville Cemetery.

The family cannot thank the Visiting Angels home care service enough.  Mindi, our “Angel,” remained by her side as she breathed her last breath. No one could have been more loving and attentive.
