Rulon Cummings

November 4, 1925 — April 2, 2019

Rulon Caine Cummings (93), surrounded by his children, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 due to complications from Influenza and Pneumonia.  He was born November 4, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Rulon Cummings and Gwendolyn Marie Caine Cummings.

Rulon married the love of his life, Jeannine Mae Astler on August 14, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They are parents of six children, Craig S. Cummings (Kay), R. Kent Cummings (Debbie), Douglas W. Cummings (Kathy), Celia M. Furlong (Thomas), Cynthia I. Richins (Larry), and AnnaLisa H. Stewart (Dan). Rulon and Jeannine have twenty-four grandchildren and forty great grandchildren.

Rulon was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Gwendolyn C. Cummings, his two younger brothers, Todd C. Cummings (Colleen) and Hugh C. Cummings (Janet), and his younger sister Karen Nielson (Douglas).

Rulon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He faithfully served in many calling including Bishop, High Councilor, and Stake President.

Rulon was a US Army Veteran who served in World War II.  He was a dedicated civil servant serving in several management positions at the Defense Depot Ogden, where he retired as Deputy Director.  He served on the Clearfield City Council for several years.  His life was devoted to service to church, family, and his community.

Dad set a great example for his family and those around him. We will miss his humor and the stories he told.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many doctors, nurses and staff of Davis Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit for the compassionate and capable care they gave him during his final illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Memorial Lakeview Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah.
