Rulon John “R.J.” Newman
Apr. 28, 1929 ~ May 18, 2019
Rulon John “RJ” Newman, 90, a long-time resident of North Ogden, graduated from this life to his heavenly home with honors. It was a wonderful reunion for RJ with his wife Glenda Cutright, and his parents Rulon Marchant and Dinah Rudd Newman.
Dad was born in Idaho Falls on April 28, 1929. He was the eldest of seven children: Rosaline (George) Chandler, Claude (Jeanine) Newman, Dennis (Denice) Newman, Ann (Nathan) Yearsley, David (Linda) Newman, and Dan Newman.
After high school, RJ served our country in the Navy. He later graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Forestry Management. After college, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission which covered all of CO, NM and portions of UT, WY, NE, and KS.
RJ married Glenda on June 5, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had four children: Loree (AJ) Seims of Wasilla, Alaska; Mike (Ingrid) Newman of Champlin, Minnesota; Jeff Newman of North Ogden, Utah; and Steve Newman of Farmington, Utah.
Dad had various jobs in the Forest Service; the most recent being in the Lands Department managing right-of-ways. RJ retired in 1992. He then served in the Ogden Temple for almost 20 years. He also served in the LDS Employment Center in Ogden. RJ spent countless hours indexing names for genealogy. He served for 45 years as the finance clerk in his ward. He enjoyed reading, walking, fishing, playing board games, gardening, and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Dad has 12 grandchildren, Loree’s: Tyler Seims, Logan (Kelleen) Seims, Jes Seims, Derek Seims, Kaylee Seims, and Ammon Seims; Mike’s: Sydney (Hector) Vergara, and Jordyn Newman; Jeff’s: Blake Newman; Steve’s: Olivia Newman, Noelle Newman, and Monet Newman.
