CENTERVILLE a€" Russel Herbert Boss, 93, died at 7:39 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at his home in Centerville, Utah from causes incident to age. Members of his family were at his bedside.

Russel was born July 25, 1914 in Garland, Utah, the sixth child of Peter and Ida Kunz Boss. He graduated from Bear River High School, served an LDS mission, married Elizabeth (Beth) Thompson (also of Garland), and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Russel and Beth were married February 28, 1941 in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they had four children, Russel Wayne, Elizabeth Ann, Janet, and Bonnie Jean. Beth passed away in Salt Lake City on April 13, 1957. Russel married Florence Brenchley in the Logan Utah Temple on April 17, 1959. She died in Centerville, Utah on January 6, 1983. He married Lois Beth Garner Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1983; she passed away in Salt Lake City on May 23, 1985. He married Lola Williams Pilgrim in the Ogden Utah Temple on January 11, 1986.

Professionally, Russel obtained his journeyman''s license as a carpenter and also worked as an independent painting contractor. He was president of Desco Products of Utah, and he worked as customer service manager of Prowswood, Inc. until he retired in 1982. Russel enjoyed woodworking, and between 1999 and 2004 he made and donated more than 12,000 wooden toys to the Humanitarian Services Department of the LDS Church.

Russel was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions, including bishoprics and on the stake high council. He served four separate missions during his life. His first was to the Palestine-Syrian Mission from January 1939 until November 1939, when the First Presidency released the entire mission corps due to the breakout of World War II. Russel completed his missionary assignment in the Northern States Mission from December 1939 to February 1941. He served three additional missions with his wife, Lola: Missouri Independence Mission (1988-1989), England London Mission (1990-1991), and the Hawaii Honolulu Mission (1995-1996).

Russel is survived by his wife, Lola, and his four children: Russel Wayne (Leslee) Boss, Boulder, Colorado; Elizabeth Ann (James) Young, Centerville, Utah; Janet (Jerry) McCoy, Des Moines, Iowa; and Bonnie Jean (James) Johnson, Farr West, Utah; ten step-children; 19 grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Karl C. (Amy) Boss, Taylorsville, Utah, and two sisters: Donna Boss Linford, Salt Lake City, Utah; and June Boss Orchard, Orem, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, three spouses, three brothers, five sisters and one great-grandson.

The family wishes to thank the following staff of the Care Givers Support Network for the love and special care they provided to Russel: Laura, Tiersa, Denise, Robin, Amber, Kathy, Lauren, Laura, Pollar, and Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Centerville 3rd Ward Chapel, 900 S. 400 E. Centerville. The public viewing will take place on Friday, March 7, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the chapel prior to the funeral services. Interment will take place in the Garland City Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post 76 Honor Guard. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com.
