Russell Hoskins, Jr.

August 25, 1954 — May 27, 2021

Russell Blaine Hoskins Jr. was born August 25, 1954, in Los Angeles, California. He was a son of Russell Blaine Hoskins Sr. and Doris May Cook.  He married Susanne Ellison with whom he had four children, they later divorced.  He then married the love of his life, Julie Ann Harris on June 8, 2002.  Their marriage was then sealed for time, and all eternity in the Logan Temple.

Russ was a man of remarkable wit, and charisma.  These are traits which won him the admiration of innumerable people.  He was recognized everywhere he went, and remembered for his stories, and jokes.  A trucker by trade, Russ spent decades travelling the highways of the Western United States.  He was also a passionate musician who had performed in many bands for the entirety of his adult life.  Many people were inspired to become musicians due to his immense love of the art, and many were taught the ways of music under his tutelage.  His love of teaching eventually superseded his love of driving when he settled into the position of commercial driving instructor.  He taught more than a thousand students over the course of many years.

Russ was a man of faith. Belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Unbreakably pious in his devotion to the Almighty.  This he manifested in continuous service to his Family, church, and community.  He was a remarkable blessing to the youth of the Starcrest Ward and offered his assistance wherever it was needed.  The very picture of selflessness.  He will be missed by an incredible number of people.

Russ passed away suddenly at his home in Rose Park on Thursday, May 27, 2021.  He is Survived by his wife, Julie Ann Hoskins; four children: Lisa Overton, Jason Hoskins, Kevin Hoskins, and Robyn (Chris) Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings: Cheryl Hoskins Cramer, Terry (Angie) Hoskins, and Stacy Moore; Brother-in-law: Dee Dipretoro; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Starcrest Ward, 868 North, Starcrest Drive, Salt Lake City.  Friends may visit with family Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North, 400 East, Bountiful, Utah and at the Starcrest Ward on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
