LAYTON - Ruth Mortensen Bennett, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend died Friday, October 19, 2012 in Washington Terrace, Utah. She was born October 23, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Hemming Carl Mortensen and Lillian Maude Gade Hooper.
Ruth married Alan D Bennett on August 22, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1942. Ruth was a member of the Layton Valley View 5th Ward and served in many capacities including Relief Society Counselor, Stake MIA Counselor, and teacher in many auxiliaries. She taught at Layton High School and was greatly loved by her students. Ruth, after retiring from teaching, worked as a hostess at the Beehive House for several years. She and Alan greatly enjoyed traveling, visiting fourteen countries and all but two states.
Ruth is survived by four children, Julianne Bennett, Kaysville; Alene Park, South Weber; Mark Alan (Teresa) Bennett, Syracuse; and Craig Mortensen Bennett, St. George. She has nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, LaRue (Grant) Mortensen, Henderson, NV, and Marjorie (Hooper) Mortensen, South Jordan. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Alan, two brothers, Hooper Mortensen and Grant Mortensen, three sisters, Wilma Galbraith, Lillian Mangle, and Lorraine Mortensen.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. The family wishes to thank the kind caregivers of Washington Terrace Care and Lifepath Hospice.
