Ruth Eileen Colter Bailey

January 21, 1929 ~ June 8, 2017

A loving wife and mother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was born on January 21, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Sybil Colter. They later moved to Utah in 1941. She graduated from Weber High School. She was employed at IRS and HAFB for nearly 30 years.

Ruth married Duran Clare Bailey on September 28, 1946, and was sealed for time and eternity on February 12, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. They would have been married 71 years in September. She and her husband were blessed with 5 daughters, 29 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions not only for the church but the community.

Ruth was a simple, down to earth person who took pride in all that she did. Family or not she always made you feel like you were a part of her family and loved. She enjoyed camping, yard work, and taking a drive with her husband wherever it took them. She loved animals and had a special love for her dog Sparky who watched over her day and night for the last six years.

Ruth is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Duran Clare Bailey; daughters, Sharon (Norm) Searle, Jeannette (David) Hall, Diane (Scott) Thompson, Pam (Clark) Bell, Kay Lynn (Todd) Anderson; and nephew, Shane Colter. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Duane Colter and Wesley Colter; one grandson, Kevin Giordano; and one great-grandson, Gavin Hall.

We would like to thank Intermountain Hospice and especially her nurse Russell for his thoughtfulness to the family and the special care he gave to her and also to the many friends and neighbors throughout her life.

She was such a great inspiration and the best example of what a wife, mother, and grandparent should be. She is going to be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
