Ruth Huffaker, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in Layton Utah on January 4th, 2025. Ruth was born on October 28th, 1935, in Baker Oregon, the 3rd child to Charles Elmer Smith and Pairlee Tackett Smith. She grew up in Riverdale Utah and attended Ogden High School.
Ruth married Jim Voss in November 1951 and together they had four children. Roy (deceased), Kirk, Randy, and Donette. They later divorced. Later Ruth’s sister set her up on a blind date where she met Ray Huffaker who had four children. Jane, Janice, Julie (deceased), and Joe. They fell in love and were married on June 24, 1966. A year later they had one daughter, Dayna. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple on June 24, 1972.
Ruth was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ruth worked at Davis Hospital as a cook and was famous for her cinnamon rolls. Everyone looked forward to the day she was making them, and they didn’t last long.
Ruth owned her own Wedding and catering business called “Ruffles and Lace”. Over the years she has made dreams come true for hundreds of brides.
Ruth’s talents were unprecedented. She was an impressive seamstress, gardener, and crafting extraordinaire. She could make anything on the sewing machine. She would meticulously make Barbie clothes, dresses of all kinds (wedding, prom, party), and regular clothes too. Ruth could create just about anything you could dream up. She served the community by altering clothes for many family and Ward members. Ruth delighted in making and gifting handmade quilts, baby blankets, and bibs to anyone expecting a new bundle of joy. Ruth spent countless hours mentoring her loved ones as she passed on her talents.
Ruth was blessed with not only her 9 children, but she has 15 Grand Children, 43 Great Grandchildren, and 6 great-great Grandchildren.
Ruth leaves behind an amazing legacy and will always be remembered.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10th at 11:00 am at the Lindquist Syracuse Mortuary, 869 S 2000 W Syracuse, UT 84075. Friends may visit with family prior to service from 9:30-10:30 am.
