Ruth J. Jacobs
WASHINGTON TERRACE – Ruth Jeanne Jacobs, 89, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
She was born November 27, 1919 in Ogden, a daughter of George Warren and Marie Madsen Jacobs.
Ruth grew up in Ogden graduating from Ogden High School in 1937. She attended Weber Junior College receiving her Associates degree. She continued her education at the University of Utah receiving a degree in physical education with an emphasis in dance in 1942. In September of 1942, Ruth became the instructor of physical education at Ogden High School. She taught at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio and at the University of Wisconsin where she decided to pursue her Master’s degree.
In the fall of 1948, she moved to California and began teaching at UCLA. Ruth returned to Ogden, Utah in 1963.
Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Wasington Terrace 5th Ward.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Rose Jacobs, Oceanside, CA; and the following nieces and nephews: Lillian Walker, Roy, UT; Georgia J. Tanner, Pleasant View, UT; Shirley Frecker, Ogden, UT; Carol Simonsen, Ogden, UT; Bonnie Jensen, Emmett, ID: Gerald Jacobs, Kaysville, UT; Jeffrey Jacobs, Tucson, AZ; John Jacobs, Monterey Park, CA; and many special cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Margaret Nate, Mildred Jacobs, Ida Jacobs, brothers, George Jacobs, Eldred Jacobs and Oren Jacobs.
The family would like to thank the physicians and caregivers at McKay-Dee Hospital for their kind and loving care. The family also thanks the members of the Washington Terrace 5th Ward for their love and care towards Ruth and her family.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 - 36th Street.
Family will meet friends at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
